GENERAL Chemicals retained the Jody Burns Memorial Trophy with a 3-1 victory over Union Tavern at Halton FC's Picow Farm Road ground.

A crowd of more than 200 watched the third staging of the match held in honour of murder victim Jody.

Jody, 27, from Norleane Crescent, was killed in June 2001 when he became innocently involved in a massive brawl at a Runcorn town centre taxi rank.

An inquest last year recorded a verdict of un-lawful killing after hearing Jody died from a single blow to the head. But the killer has never been caught.

Jody was a keen footballer and played for both clubs involved in the annual match.

Chemics have now completed a hat-trick of victories, winning the previous two 4-2 and 6-2.

John McDonald scored two of their goals this time with the other coming from their man-ofthe-match Colin Kudrycz. Netting for Union Tavern, on his debut, was David Whitfield.

Jody's brother Jason Burns presented mementoes to Kudrycz and Tavern's MoM, skipper Kevin Morris.
