WINSFORD moved to the very edge of promotion on Saturday.
Prime forces behind their surge were newcomers Andy Watson, Ryan Stewart and Ged McAllister, whose signings appear masterstrokes.
They all turned in first-class performances and their extra height has given the team a formidable authority and United look dangerous at every set piece, especially Lee Duckworth's inswinging corners.
It was United's 12th away win and it might have started in the first minute when a home defender clearly punched the ball clear in the penalty box.
The referee missed the of-fence but in the sixth minute McAllister scrambled the ball home from close range and United were on their way.
Home goalkeeper Danny Smith denied Watson with his fingertips before, in the 23rd minute, McAllister skilfully threaded the ball through to Rob Hopley, whose shot went in via the far post.
At the time United looked rampant, but five minutes before the break keeper Jamie Mottershead was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area, palming it away from Dean Martin.
It meant a reshuffle and a rethink. Centre back Dave Harper donned the jersey, as he had done for Leek CSOB against United earlier in the season. Watson dropped back into defence and what United had, they held.
Cheadle were also reduced to 10 men when Ben Roberts was dismissed for his second bookable offence in the 70th minute.
United: Mottershead; Jarrett, Harper, Marsh, Stewart; Hanlon, Quinn, Watson, Duckworth (Hughes 80); Hopley (Lomax 89), McAllister (Coyne 89).
