NEWLY-CROWNED Nationwide Conference champions Chester City have had four players selected for the England National Game XI squad who play in next month's Four Nations international tournament.

Danny Collins - who is an injury doubt - Paul Carden, Phil Bolland and Scott Guyett are all included in the squad. It is a first international call-up for Bolland.

City chairman Stephen Vaughan said last night: "It is a great honour for the players and the club, and, of course, it is recognition of the quality that we possess in our squad.

"Unfortunately it is unlikely that Danny Collins will be able to take his place in the team, as he sustained a cracked bone in his foot during Saturday's game with Scar-borough."

The tournament, which sees Eng-land meet Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, will be played in the north of Scotland during the week commencing May 17.

Vaughan also revealed that he had received good wishes on the club's promotion to the Football League from the chairman of the club who defeated City in last season's play-off competition.

"John Ryan of Doncaster Rovers sent an extremely kind message to me and my manager Mark Wright," he said. "He was extremely complimentary to the job that Mark had done, and he wished the club all the best in Division Three.

John reflected that his side hadn't met anybody as good as we are in his club's first season back in the Football League.

"Doncaster, of course, have already clinched promotion themselves to Division Two, so that sentiment was praise indeed."

Vaughan and Wright have already started planning for next season, and the pair held a meeting yesterday to discuss the players that the manager considers would strengthen the squad next season.

Among the names that City have been linked with recently are the Morecambe midfielder Stewart Drummond, who is out of contract this summer, and Telford United midfielder Sam Ricketts.

Meanwhile, Vaughan was the guest speaker last night at a euphoric Annual General Meeting of the Chester City Independent Supporters Association.
