ALSAGER banished the memory of four consecutive defeats by snatching six points on their travels.

Town's season looked to be floundering after failing to even register a goal in the four recent losses, but they bounced back in style.

A 6-0 demolition job at struggling Chorley in midweek came courtesy of goals from Richard Mitchell, Carl Robinson, Paul Macari, Glyn Black-hurst (2), and Lee Madin.

And there was little let-up on Saturday, with hosts Harrogate were fortunate to get away with a 2-1 scoreline, when Steve Elks and Mitchell were on target.

Assistant manager Dorian Garner took charge of the team at the weekend, as boss Greg Clowes was poorly with a stomach complaint.

He said: 'We had a long conversation with the lads after the four defeats. Any team who loses four on the trot will have their confidence affected.

'But I told them they are still the same side which got off to a flyer, and that we needed to get back to basics. And I feel we did that.

'Chorley are having a tough time, but we still had a job to do, and we did it well. And to be fair we were much the better side at Harrogate, hitting the bar twice and having two clear penalties not given. It is pleasing to get a response like that.'

Garner also singled out forward Mitchell for praise. Last season's top scorer has found himself warming the bench at times this season.

But he took it on the chin and bagged a goal in each of the last two games, taking his tally to five. Garner said: 'I think Richard would admit he thought he'd be the first name on the sheet, but any player not performing will find themselves quickly on the bench. His response to that has been fantastic, and he is playing well in addition to getting the goals.'

The return to fitness of forward Peter Heler has given the Bullets a boost, while defender Ryan Dicker's knee operation has been a success and he could be back within the fortnight.

They faced Cammell Laird as the Chronicle went to press last night. Stocksbridge Park Steels visit the Town Ground on Saturday in the FA Trophy first round, before a trip to Skelmersdale United in Division One on Tuesday night.
