CREWE FC blasted eight goals in two games to firmly underline their genuine promotion credentials in Division Two.

Ian O'Reilly remains cautious after the disappointment of last season's relegation, but it is now clear that Crewe have what it takes to bounce back at the first time of asking.

It is just a question of whether they fulfil their obvious potential.

A 4-0 thrashing of Lostock Gralam on Wednesday was followed by a 4-1 win at fellow title contenders Broad-heath Central on Saturday.

O'Reilly said: 'We played well in both games and could have actually scored more goals.

'But I have told the boys I want us to get out in front and take it from there.

'We need to concentrate on our own game at the moment and not worry about what anyone else is doing. It is a long, hard season and this is just the start.'

First-half goals from Lee Westwood (2), Barry Morrell and Jon Dawson against Lostock at Reaseheath sealed the deal on Wednesday.

Ex-Crewe Alex trainee Westwood is in sparkling form up front, and he added another brace to his already growing tally at Broad-heath.

His partner Dawson also chipped in after Liam O'Reilly had got the ball rolling with a wonderful curling strike from the edge of the area.

Confidence is flowing through the side, but absentees could rock the boat for this Saturday's home encounter with Maine Road Reserves.

Westwood, Dawson, Liam O'Reilly, Daniel Athorn, Dave Hanson and Daniel Massey are all first-teamers who will be unavailable through holidays or suspensions.

O'Reilly is concerned but insists there will be people who can take advantage.

He added: 'It is a blow because Westwood and Dawson are absolutely on fire and are working well together. But it is a chance for the others to come in and show what they can do.

'It is a shame Hanson is not available because he could really put pressure on the lads in the first team, but Jimmy Costigan did well for the reserves last season and could play.

'I am also trying to bring in former Nantwich player Dale Melling to add to our defensive resources this week, and I think he could play a part.'
