BOBBY Williamson has hinted that changes could be on their way when the Blues lock horns with Cheshire rivals Macclesfield Town tomorrow.

Chester’s visit to Moss Rose kicks off a busy spell of five matches in 14 days and Williamson – who was far from satisfied with his players after last Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Brentford – could be ready to shake things up.

The City boss said: ‘The games are coming thick and fast but we’ve got a squad of players and everybody should feel that they’ve got an opportunity to play.

‘I’ve got a decision to make on Saturday over what team I go with because we’ve lost the last game.

‘So it’s all back in the melting pot and hopefully I can pick the right team to get a result.’

Williamson also has a handful of injury worries to contend with.

Full-back James Vaughan continues to struggle with a foot problem and is unlikely to feature against the Silkmen, while striker Chris Holroyd is also carrying a knock.

To make matters worse, teenage midfielder/defender Kevin Roberts picked up an ankle injury in Wednesday’s reserve team match at Carlisle and has almost zero chance of being involved at Macclesfield.

Williamson confirmed: ‘Kevin’s ankle is badly swollen and he’s very doubtful for Saturday.

‘James Vaughan is not ready yet and Chris Holroyd could be in the struggling category.’

The injury problems have restricted Williamson’s selection options but he still has a few changes to consider. A suspension-free Paul Linwood is pushing hard for a starting place, while there is also pressure on City’s strikers to discover their best form.

Macclesfield – whose squad includes former Chester players Luke Dimech, Kevin McIntyre and Carl Regan – have made a solid yet unspectacular start to the campaign.

Five of their seven League Two matches have finished in draws, meaning they are no higher than 16th in the table despite losing only once all season.

Williamson said: ‘That tells you they’re going to be hard to beat. They’ve drawn a few and maybe they’re finding it difficult to turn those draws into wins.

‘I hope they find it difficult on Saturday.

‘We’re going there expecting a tough match and I’m sure it will be. I’m just hoping we can get the first goal and get the breaks on the day.’
