WINSFORD United have made an emergency recall to Lee Morgan.

Overpowered 4-0 at home on the opening day, manager Dave Twite has moved quickly to inject the experience, height and muscle his team lacked.

Morgan, who had a season in the UniBond League First Division with Witton Albion two years ago and is a formidable figure on Sunday with Cheshire Cup winners Oaklands, will be restored to United's back line for the visit to Maine Road, which has been brought forward to Friday.

Mark Quinn, the former Liverpool youngster who proved a massive influence in the buildup to the season, will also be fit by them.

But his hairline fracture of the elbow and Morgan's unavailability means United go into their second game at Eccleshall tonight with a similar squad to Saturday's.

United have re-signed flankman Dave Heywood, another with experience at a higher level, and he may well be in the squad tonight.

Twite was defiant and gave his youngsters a vote of confidence.

'I have got every faith in them,' he declared.

'It is only one game. 'They have not got a lot of experience and I told them all last week they have to stand up and be counted. They have got to stand up for themselves on the pitch because they have the ability,' said Twite.

He is also able to count on first choice goalkeeper Matt Tucker, who was at a wedding, from now on.

Twite added: 'We could not keep possession at crucial times - that cost us three of the four goals.

'We should have scored early and Les Miranda also ought to have done after 20 minutes or so. At one down we had the chance to regroup, but they scored a second just before the break.

'It came down to Oldham having a physical presence in the last third of the pitch.

'We knew not having Mark Quinn would be a blow and he is hoping to get back for Wednesday, but I do not wish to risk losing him for longer by rushing him back too soon.'

It may be that substitute winger Chris Webb did enough to earn a place in the starting lineup tonight, while Ian Carthy (calf strain) is another expecting to be fit for Maine Road.

United are at home next Wednesday to Norton United.

They have not settled their dispute with Powergen, who had cut them off in error, and are reconnected to the main supply.

* PHYSIO Steve Foden is about to open Winsford's first sports injury clinic at the Barton Stadium.

Foden, 34 and fully qualified, has been at United for three years after treating players at several Sunday sides, most notably Pockets. He was with Twite at Middlewich Town, also.

His clinic at Winsford would be a joint enterprise between himself and the club and he hopes would be especially useful to Sunday players.

'I know a lot of lads who get injured either go to A&E or their own doctor on a Monday. I aim to be here on a Sunday to fix them up or give them advice, because it could be important to see someone straight away.

'I'm a Winsford lad supporting the Winsford team and offering Winsford sportsmen and women a service they have not enjoyed before.'
