VAUXHALL Motors suffered a dramatic last-gasp 2-1 home loss to Workington in Blue Square North on Tuesday.

Carl Macauley’s men had seemingly snatched the three points when the in-form Leighton McGivern put them in front with two minutes to play.

But the Cumbrians hit back with two goals in as many minutes to seal an unlikely victory.

A draw would have been a fairer result after an evenly-fought contest in which both sides passed up a string of opportunities.

The most notable chance came in the 67th minute when McGivern struck the post. But the striker was not to be denied and he beat the offside trap in the 88th minute to score his sixth goal of the season.

Vauxhall’s joy was short-lived, however, as Connor Tinnion took advantage of some poor defending to equalise before fellow substitute Andy Murray-Jones finished off a hopeful punt into the box.

Having gone down 2-0 at home to second-placed Alfreton Town last Saturday, Motors travel to leaders Nuneaton this Saturday (3pm).
