VAUXHALL Motors boosted their Blue Square North survival prospects on Tuesday with a vital 4-2 victory at relegation rivals Eastwood Town.

With Leighton McGivern departed for Altrincham and loanee Cole Stockton recalled by Tranmere Rovers, Motors’ manager played a strike partnership of Josh Wilson and Kevin Holsgrove for the first time this season.

The decision proved to be a masterstroke.

Wilson hit a hat-trick while Holsgrove also got on the scoresheet.

Macauley’s men, who occupy the final drop spot but are now just two points from fourth-from-bottom Hinckley United, had gone down fighting 2-0 at home to leaders Hyde on Saturday.

Macauley said after the match a lack of goals was his biggest concern.

He will therefore have been delighted by the emphatic nature of the win over Eastwood.

Motors head to Harrogate Town on Saturday (3pm).
