VAUXHALL Motors will be hoping to continue their recent revival in front of a larger-than-average crowd at Rivacre Park on Saturday.
The Motormen host Guiseley (3pm), who have won their last eight of their last nine games to maintain their hopes of catching Blue Square Bet North table-toppers Chester FC.
In a bid to lure in more fans, Vauxhall are inviting their supporters to bring along a friend for free.
The two-for-one offer was originally planned for the match against Corby Town at the end of January but the fixture fell victim to the wintry weather.
Motors chairman Alan Bartlam, concerned as ever by the club’s poor attendances, said: “A lot of our fans come along to the game on their own and know the quality of football on offer is of a very high standard.
“They undoubtedly tell their friends about us but can never quite encourage them to come along. Well, here is their chance to invite them along without it costing them money.”
The offer is open to Rivacre Park regulars who want to bring a friend with them.
With neighbours Tranmere Rovers playing on Friday evening and Chester facing a long trip to Corby, Motormen officials hope there will be more local fans in search of a Saturday afternoon football fix.
Chester may be the league’s runaway leaders but second-placed Guiseley are the form team in the league.
Vauxhall, unbeaten in seven, are on a fine run themselves.
Carl Macauley’s men have taken 19 points from their last 10 matches after winning 3-2 at Solihull Moors on Saturday with goals from Obi Anoruo, Andy Nicholas and Craig Mahon.
The results have not led to bigger home crowds – only 143 fans saw the game against Bishop’s Stortford on January 12 – but boss Macauley is more than happy with the progress being made on the field.
Defender Nicholas has signed a contract extension which ties him to the club for another season and Macauley is hoping other members of the Motors squad follow suit in the coming weeks.
He reckons that he could secure the club’s highest ever finish in the Blue Square Bet North if given the funds to make new signings in the summer.
Admission on Saturday is £10 for adults, £6 for concessions, £3 for students (ID required) and £1 for under 16s. Under the terms of the two-for-one offer, the higher admission charge will apply if concessions, students or U16s are involved.
Vauxhall, who lost 4-0 at home to Northwich Victoria in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday, are away to Bradford Park Avenue this Monday (7.45pm).
