FORMER Liverpool left-back Fabio Aurelio is considering his future after being shown the door by Brazilian outfit Gremio.

The popular 33-year-old, who left Anfield when his contract expired at the end of the 2011-12 season, has been told he’s surplus to requirements under new coach Renato Gaucho.

Injury-plagued Aurelio endured a miserable first season at Gremio after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training last July.

He returned to action in March but made just five appearances and Gremio are keen to move him on before the Brazilian transfer window shuts later this month.

Gremio executive director Rui Costa said: “He is no longer a part of the group due to a decision by the football department.”

THE progress of young Liverpool goalkeeper Ryan Fulton has been rewarded with a three-year professional contract.

The Burnley-born 17-year-old has been at the club’s Academy for the past six years.

His father Brian said: “He’s seen off two under-19 keepers, and now he has the under-21 keeper in his sights. The hard work starts now, he’s got to step things up another level.”

Lloyd Jones, Alex O’Hanlon and Dan Trickett-Smith also penned pro deals this week.

NEWPORT County are set to sign former Liverpool Academy keeper Jamie Stephens. The 19-year-old, who was released in May, impressed during a trial with the League Two new boys and will be offered a contract by boss Justin Edinburgh.
