BIG GUNS FC Merebrook and Castrol Tessuti barnstormed their way into the Ellesmere Port & District Sunday League's George Williamson Memorial Jubilee Challenge Cup second round, and on this showing, sounded a warning that they are obviously the ones to avoid en route to the final.

Ian Parry fired a four-goal salvo, as Tessuti blitzed Event Mobile Tyres LPSC 7-1, but not to be out-done, Graham Carvell followed suit with a four-timer in Merebrook's 8-1 destruction of RBL Little Sutton.

Division One promotion chasers, Thomas Telford, punctured the dreams of Premier Division side, Vauxhalls, with three-goal hero Paul Gates taking the plaudits for Tommies in the 5-2 success.

Further efforts from Steve James and Gary Roberts completed the statistics, with Richie Martin and Dave Manning in reply for the Motormen.

Paul Witkiss put through his own net to give Old Wirral Hundred hope against the Bull, but the hosts hit back through Karl Clegg, Mark Livens and Scott Ellis to emerge 3-1 victors.

Goals from Lee Hallmark and Dave Boyle weren't enough as Cat lost out to replies from Merton Travel Marquis's Ben Sudbury, Alan Locke and Tony Taylor.

It was an early exit also for Parkside Rovers, who were unlocked by strikes from Phoenix's Steve Cato (2) and Danny Hughes but 90 minutes and extra time failed to produce a winner between SC Red Lion and Kingkabs. The contest finished 3-3 with Steve Hickson, Colin Darch and Mike Williams netting for the Lion, and Andy Rothery, Lee Conroy and Chris Reed providing the visitors' contribution, before the Lion won 4-2 on penalties.

In another 3-3 draw, Princes shared the spoils with Westminster in the day's only Premier Division fixture. Steve Armitage scored twice for Princes and Tony Ashton added two for the visitors.

Sutton Villa's 3-0 victory over Travellers Rest in Division One, was endorsed by goals from Gary Handley, Mike Wainwright and Ian Kelly while Simon Thelwell (2) and

Warren Woodward fired the bullets to secure FC Sportsmans' 3-1 win against Milestone. A goal from Phoenix Res' Steve Elson was cancelled out by a reply from White Swan's Phil Rudd.

Pick of the action from this Sunday's programme sees Princes in action against Merebrook at Luton Road in the Premier Division, and in Division One, The Bull's encounter with Thomas Telford has the makings of a close contest.
