A YOUTHFUL Chester reserve side tumbled to a 2-0 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers in Division One West of the Pontin’s League on Wednesday.

After an early goal from Adnan Ahmed gave the visitors the lead, James Owen almost restored parity for the Blues – only to be denied by the quick reactions of Rovers keeper Shane McWeeney.

City lost Stephen Thorpe to injury following a heavy challenge before half time, with the youngster being replaced by Simon Williams.

The second half was very tight and Chester came close to drawing level through Shaun Kelly, who volleyed just over. But Rovers doubled their lead soon afterwards when, on 67 minutes, Craig Curran converted a Mike Jones cross.

Chester: Palethorpe, Smith, Feliciello, Rowlands, Kelly, Owen, Mitchell, Morrin (Newman 81), Ellams, Thorpe (Williams 36), McManus (Ablett 75). Subs: Dorman, Gregory.

Starlet signs early

THE Blues have offered an apprenticeship to a rising star 12 months early.

Clubs usually offer apprenticeship deals to players when they reach 16, but City have signed up 15-year-old Kyann Mason, from Pensby.

He moved to Chester aged 12 after spending two years on Tranmere Rovers’ books.
