VAUXHALL Motors chairman Alan Bartlam has assured fans that boss Carl Macauley has 'irons in the fire' after the club lost another key player.

Defender Lee Woodyatt this week signed for Blue Square North rivals Barrow, following in the footsteps of ex-Motors skipper Steve McNulty, who quit Rivacre Park and joined the Holker Street side earlier this month.

Former Chester City right-back Woodyatt, 23, has signed a one-year deal and becomes the fifth player to leave the club this summer.

In a further blow for the Motormen, assistant boss Carl Spellman has stepped down. But despite the concerning number of departures, Bartlam insists there is no cause for alarm.

The Vauxhall chairman said: 'Pre-season starts in a couple of weeks and I know Carl (Macauley) has some irons in the fire. We will be bringing in some players in the next few weeks.

'We have to have the team pretty much up to scratch by the time we start our friendlies. The busiest time of the year for a football club seems to be the summer when we have no fixtures!'
