BARNTON, who help launch a major new knockout competition this weekend, inflicted Old Alts' first defeat of the season to march into the Cheshire Cup 3rd round on Saturday.
They were always in charge and caused their opponents plenty of problems with Aidan Brodigan in great form. He terrorised the Old Alts defence and, in turn, was the victim of some severe treatment.
The home side created several decent opportunities and Paul Hennin had two headers saved before volleying them in front. Barnton continued to dominate but could not add to their total before the break.
Barnton's luck changed after the introduction of Clint Burton and Darren Kinsey, the 16-year-olds adding pace to the attack.
They refreshed the front line and Kinsey scored in the 75th and 80th minutes, before the visitors snatched a consolation with their only shot on target.
Barnton entertain the West Cheshire League representative side on Saturday in the FA National System Cup.
They play as the Mid Cheshire League's appointed entrants, the MCL opting for their champions rather than concoct a side from all clubs.
The inaugural competition starts with 16 teams and Villa Park will stage the final. The winners then enter a European tournament. Kick-off is 1.45pm.
