THE Blues are running the rule over a promising teenager they hope will be a chip off the old block!
Jordan Barnes, the 17-year-old son of former England and Liverpool legend John, scored two goals for Chester's youth team in their 4-0 win at Mynydd Isa on Wednesday.
Displaying a cool head, skill and awareness reminiscent of his famous dad, Jordan rounded the keeper for both goals - going left for his first and swerving to the right for his second.
'He's a better athlete than his dad!' joked Jim Hackett, Chester's youth team manager.
'Seriously though, we've been very impressed with him since he joined us in the first week of pre-season.
'He's a bit taller than his dad and seems to have a lot of flexibility. He's a nice lad too.'
Jordan - who bears a striking similarity to his father, who burst on to the English football scene with Watford in the early 1980s - arrived at Chester this summer after Barnes senior recommended him to City boss Mark Wright.
Wright and Barnes senior were team-mates with Liverpool and England in the 1980s and 1990s.
Jordan, who had previously been playing in local amateur leagues, is almost certain to be snapped up on youth team forms by Chester before the start of the season.
He made his debut on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Northwich Victoria.
Kevin Roberts and Brett Robson scored City's other goals at Isa's Argoed Sports Centre on Wednesday.
The Blues' young guns entertain Vauxhall Motors U18s tomorrow (11am) and round-off their pre-season programme with trips to Scunthorpe United on Tuesday, August 1 and Crewe on Saturday, August 5. nChester City Ladies are on the lookout for a new manager.
