CARLSBERG West Cheshire League Division Two side Ashville Reserves progressed to the semi-finals of the West Cheshire Bowl for the first time since 1989 after pulling the mat from under holders Cammell Laird Reserves.

Hero of the hour was Mike Hannaway, who plundered a superb hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Steve McCann in Saturday's 4-1 triumph. Gary Reay obliged with Laird's consolation.

Strongly fancied Poulton Vics Reserves, who overcame Manor Athletic 3-0 with goals from Neil Atkinson (2) and Carl Butler, are now favourites to complete a league and cup double.

Ninety minutes produced a 2-2 stalemate between Capenhurst Villa and Blacon YC before Carl Ladbrooke snatched an extra-time decider for Cape. Earlier in the game, efforts from Cape's Chris Dodds and John Keefe had been cancelled out by replies from the visitors' Matt Wilde and Jamie Rogers.

Making up the quartet of semi-finalists are Heswall Reserves, who paid Merseyside Police a visit and emerged 1-0 victors thanks to a goal from Ian Richards.

Saturday's Division One action saw Heswall's first team score through Kevin Cole and Mike McGraa (pen) only to dip 4-2 at General Chemicals, Bernie Cannon, Mike Smith, Mark Robinson and Russ Whitehead netting for the winners.

Danny Mulla went one better with a hat-trick as Ellesmere Port came from behind to beat Mallaby 4-3. Andy Walker was the other marksman with youngsters Jay Blackburn (2) and Mark Connelly making the scoresheet for the visitors.

Vauxhall Motors Reserves with Stuart Wright, Reece Lewis and Ryan Ford on the mark, registered their second league win on the trot after winning 3-1 at Helsby while Castrol Social and Christleton shared the spoils after finishing 1-1.

Paul Robinson scored both goals for New Brighton, who moved into seventh place in Division Two after posting a 2-0 result at Christleton Reserves, but two from Mike Mosedale counted for little as Willaston were humbled 8-2 at Mond Rangers.

Division Three's match of the day between current unbeaten leaders MANWEB Reserves and nearest rivals West Kirby Reserves, was settled 1-0 in MANWEB's favour, Joey Kelly scoring the crucial goal, which now gives the leaders a seven point advantage.

A Shaun Cassidy effort failed to prevent Bronze Social from going down 2-1 at home to bottom club Grange Athletic.

Craig Pownall claimed the game's only goal for Manor Athletic Reserves against Ellesmere Port Reserves and a Paul Ains-worth strike helped Capenhurst Villa Reserves to a 1-1 draw at Upton AA Reserves.

Elsewhere, Chester rivals Chester Nomads and MBNA sustained their challenges for promotion, after beating St Werburgh's 5-2 and Mond Rangers Reserves 3-0 respectively.
