MINI soccer stars battled it out for the Ellesmere Port Primary Schools Football League title at Vauxhall Motors Sports and Social Club's all-weather pitches.

The brainchild of Meadow Primary School teacher Andy Walker, last Friday's event saw six schools - Meadow, Woodlands, Our Lady's, Little Sutton CofE, Whitby Heath and St Saviour's - meet for a tournament played in a round-robin league format.

Andy said: 'All the schools were aware from the outset it was competitive. It is good for the children to learn about winning and losing and while the winners got medals and we also had a fair play award, everyone was congratulated and received a certificate.'

Meadow School won the title, with Our Lady's runners up and Little Sutton claiming the fair play award.
