WITTON escaped three goalmouth scares but also might have beaten their title chasing visitors on Monday.
A tremendous goalmouth scramble in only the second minute saw Paul Gibson, Brian Pritchard and Darrell Dicken all clear off the line in quick-fire succession.
The second half brought a similarly frantic incident with a Gibson stop from Andy Whittaker being the key moment.
And in injury time Jimmy King's 25-yard free kick hit the crossbar.
But equally there were moments when Bamber had to hold their breath, too.
Dave Nolan headed an early Dicken free kick just over and then Phil Sharrock saved at the base of a post from a deflected Dicken shot.
Steve Mallinson shot just wide after the resumption and a Pritchard header looked goalbound before it veered off at the death and Gary Furnival could not make contact with a desperate lunge.
A long range shot by Dicken was spilled by Sharrock, but the goalkeeper recovered to beat Mike Moseley in the battle for the loose ball.
Largely though the game shuttled back and forth with little of consequence happening, as the defences remained on top. ALBION: Gibson; Salt, Pritchard, Furnival, Barlow; Dicken, Foy, Mallinson (Tickle 89), Nolan; Sargeson, Moseley.
Att: 240 Star Man: Gary Furnival, a presiding role at the back.
Next Best: Darrell Dicken Team Rating: 3 Match Rating: 2 Albion are at home to second from bottom Ossett Town on Saturday, aware they can be overhauled by half-a-dozen teams below them, some having games in hand.
The club's place in the top 13 to be 'promoted' to the UniBond Premier Division is by no means certain yet, even though they are eighth and could rise as high as sixth at the weekend.
Victory to manager John Davison is therefore essential, but he may still be deprived of midfielders Alex Kevan (back) and Andy Pavey (knee).
Witton have invited Congleton to play the Mid Cheshire Senior Cup semi-final at Wincham Park on Thursday week. The visitors have pressed for Wednesday. Talks continue.
