DANIEL AGGER has slammed speculation that his Anfield days are numbered.

The Liverpool defender has been linked with moves to both Inter Milan and Wolfsburg during the January transfer window but the 25-year-old insists he's going nowhere.

Agger, who is currently sidelined with a calf injury, is focused on getting fit and forcing his way back into Roy Hodgson's plans.

“I think it's very strange that some yell and scream over everything they know nothing about,” he said.

“I do not understand why they do it when they do not know a damn thing about what they're talking about. I cannot stop it, I can only laugh about it.

“I'm the only one who knows if it will happen. Liverpool cannot throw me out of the club even if they wanted as I have four years left on my contract.”

In the interview with Danish media Agger said the manager had given him no indication that he is surplus to requirements at Anfield.

“If Roy Hodgson doesn't need me I would expect him to be man enough to say it to my face. He has not said anything in that direction,” he added.

The Denmark international, who cost £5million from Brondby in 2006, hasn't played for the Reds since the 2-2 draw with Sunderland in September.

However, after a lengthy injury absence he is expected to return to training in the next fortnight and be back available for the festive programme.

It's highly unlikely the Reds would even consider a bid for Agger with fellow centre-back Jamie Carragher missing until March.

Carragher had surgery yesterday on the shoulder he dislocated at Spurs and the procedure was a success.

“The operation went well," said the Reds' head of sports medicine Peter Brukner.

“It confirmed this was the correct course of action to take to ensure Jamie makes a complete recovery.”

Meanwhile, Hodgson insists Steven Gerrard remains on course to return against Newcastle United next Saturday despite the skipper suffering an injury scare at Melwood.

The midfielder feared he had aggravated his hamstring problem when he pulled up in training this week.

However, the club's medical team have given him the all-clear and the manager hopes to have Gerrard back for the trip to St James' Park.

The 30-year-old has been sidelined since he was hurt on England duty against France last month.

“No, there's no problem with Steven,” Hodgson said.

“It turned out that he just tweaked a bit of scar tissue.

“I spoke to him after Tuesday's training and he did say he felt he had tweaked something. But the medical people have a look at him and said it was nothing, it was only scar tissue.

“It's fine and when he went back to training again he was fine. It's not a setback to his planned comeback and he should be fine.”

Reds youngsters Daniel Pacheco and Martin Kelly have signed new contracts to keep them at Anfield until 2014.

Spaniard Pacheco, 19, has made 13 first team appearances since arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2007.

Academy graduate Kelly has impressed at right-back in the absence of Glen Johnson this season and the 20-year-old has 15 senior games under his belt.

The Reds' FA Cup third round tie at Manchester United will be played on Sunday, January 9 with a 1.30pm kick-off.
