'CRAZY rule' didn't stop the Mid Cheshire League getting one over their West Cheshire League rivals in the second round of a new football knockout.
The Mid Cheshire League, represented by Barnton, beat the WCL 2-0 in the second round of the FA National Systems Cup - despite only having a squad of 12 men.
Barnton were without five first-team players due to a competition ruling which meant that anyone under 19 or over 32 could not be selected.
Assistant coach Mark Warburton said: 'We have three young lads under 18 who have featured all season for us, and they couldn't play. Coupled with Paul Hennin and Neil McBride both being 33, it caused us real selection problems.
'Rules are rules and we understand that - our problem was we were not made aware of this until 6pm on Friday, which didn't give us much time to react. In addition to that, Chris Geygan was on holiday.
'We eventually managed to select from 12 players, played lads of position and changed our formation - from one to 12 they were fantastic.'
