Dominic Vose isn’t feeling sentimental about his return to Wrexham on Sunday.

The Chester FC winger returns to the Racecourse for the first time since leaving the Welsh side for Scunthorpe United in February 2016 when the Blues make the short down the A483 for Sunday’s cross-border derby (12 noon kick off, live on BT Sport).

Vose, who signed a short-term deal with Chester last month and who is playing for expenses only, was a hit during his time in North Wales, scoring what was voted the greatest goal ever scored at the Racecourse when he netted against Gateshead in 2015 with a mazy dribble and fine finish).

But there is no emotional return for the 24-year-old who is focused on doing a job in a blue and white shirt come Sunday lunch time.

Said Vose: “I enjoyed Wrexham, I really enjoyed my time there.

“It is a good game to play in, back at the Racecourse. I will see some old faces, but from a football perspective we have got to go there and get a result, regardless of me.

“I haven’t been back there since. It will be weird and I’ll probably run out and do a warm up on the opposite side because it’s what I’m used to.”

Asked about his wonder goal, Vose added: “Hopefully I can recreate that for Chester. I don’t know how it will go down with the fans but it is nothing personal.

“I have got to go there and try and get three points for Chester. That’s the long and the short of it.

“I haven’t scored for four games so if I score in my fifth game on TV against Wrexham, it is what it is.

“Football is a funny old game and people forget, and fans are fickle. But I think we had a good relationship. I don’t think I have played against an old team – I hope I don’t get any boos.”

After the 2-0 defeat to Dover on Tuesday night Chester now look near certainties for relegation from the National League.

Any slim chance they have will depend on whether Vose sticks around for the remainder. It is something he would be keen on.

He said: “I just want to play football and I haven’t played all season. My first week I played three 90 minutes in a week and I haven’t done that for over a year.

“Nothing has been set in stone and I am here to help the team. If I am here for 10 games then I am happy to do it to help get them out of the relegation zone.”
