THE Chester FC Youth squad brought the curtain down on a hugely successful pre-season tour of Scotland with a 2-1 win over Airdrie.

Nineteen of the squad made the trip North of the border, with several of their parents and the coaching staff, for a self-funded trip to Glasgow.

Scottish Championship side Queen of the South provided the team’s first test of the tour as the Blues young guns were held to a 1-1 draw.

An air of tradition swirled around in the breezy conditions at Palmerston Park, as the combination of the wonderful old terraces and the brand new artificial pitch made for a delightful affair.

Chester pressed well all game but fell behind just before the half-hour mark only for Liam Blake to prod home an equaliser in the 78th minute.

The Excelsior Stadium, home of Scottish League One outfit Airdrie, proved a much more fruitful contest as goals from Tom Peers and Tom Batten sealed the win for the tourists.

Despite the physical nature of the game, the Blues battled well throughout and held on to snatch victory.

A long and tortuous journey was made all the worthwhile by the priceless experience.
