WINNINGTON slipped to the bottom of the First Division, but skipper Stuart Hayes is backing them to beat relegation.

Their next three games are against Urmston, Chester Boughton Hall and Poynton, three of the top four teams.

Hayes said: 'That takes us up to the halfway stage, which means our last three games of the season are against the same teams - and we don't want to be coming up against the likes of them desperate for points.

'We have got to get the points before then and I think we will.

'We have Tom Pilling and David Leech, key men who have been unavailable, back with us and training is being refocused. Simple things on the square are going wrong, but it is a very high standard and damned hard work.

'What's more, our Seconds were relegated last season and winning every game, but the difference in standard is amazing and when they take the step up it is like a different world.

'But we will survive.' Jim Pilling hit 70 runs, but was Winnington's only success of a dismal performance. Winnington's Under 13s are looking for additional players for Sunday morning matches. Practice nets are Tuesday and Friday evenings 6-8pm and full details are available on 01606 559884.
