SPORTS goods firm Stuart Surridge is to sponsor the Cheshire County League's Fred Graham Twenty/20 Trophy and Plate competitions in 2006.

With a backing of £1,250, Surridge have agreed to underwrite the league's big Finals Day on Sunday, August 13, when Chester Boughton Hall's ground will stage the semi-finals and final of the main competition and the final of the Plate concurrently on two pitches.

Confirmation of the league's main sponsorship was ratified at the AGM last week when Ron Jones of CD Bramall Trucks, handed over a £7,500 cheque.

The father of Oulton Park's Chris and Danny Jones, Ron Jones said he had spent many years playing in the Lancashire and Cheshire Leagues and realised the importance of a solid cash backer. He said the standard of play in the Cheshire County League Premier Division last season had been the highest he had known in a long cricket career and applauded the success of the Cheshire pyramid which was working greatly to the advantage of cricket within the county.
