NEW BRIGHTON Cricket Club 1st XI lost a low scoring game at Huyton in the Littlewoods Gaming Liverpool and District Competition ECB Premier by 18 runs on Saturday.

After winning the toss, New Brighton bowled Huyton out for 124 with Sajid Mahmood taking 5-50 but despite the efforts of Chandika Hathurusinghe, who scored 48, were themselves bowled out for 106 with West Indian Marlon Black taking 7-35.

The 2nd XI had their second tied match of the season at Rake Lane when they bowled out Sefton Park for 168 in a game they generally looked like losing. After being inserted, New Brighton appeared to be comfortable at 105-3 but crashed to 109-9 before Phil Leech (40 not out) and Kenny Winter (15) added 59 for the 10th wicket, Richie Williams and Steve Corbett earlier scoring 35 and 33 respectively. Sefton Park look to have victory in the bag but Benn Treharne (5-44) then took three wickets in five balls to salvage the situation.

AFH's 3rd XI got back to winning ways at Sefton Park RS with a three-wicket victory after restricting the home side to 187-9 declared. KJW's lost to Interglaze Wallasey at Upton Road by 78 runs, being bowled out for 130 in reply to the visitor's 208- 9 declared off 45 overs with Andy McWilliam (30) and Martin McKeown (25) being the main run scorers for New Brighton.

On Sunday NC's 3rd XI went down by eight wickets at Hyde, the home side taking just 33 overs to pass New Brighton's 205-7 declared off 55 overs after they has been invited to bat first. Thirteen-year-old John While scored an excellent 60 and there were good contributions from Richie Welsh (35) and Steve Murphy (33).

The Under-21s XI provide the highlight of next weekend when they play Nantwich at Rake Lane on Sunday in the final of the Bowcock Cuerden Cheshire Knockout.

Next Saturday the 1st XI are at home to Wigan in the Littlewoods Gaming Liverpool and District Competition ECB Premier League with the 2nd XI playing at Huyton. AFH's 3rd XI are away at Sefton Park NB and KJW's 3rd XI have Sefton Park RS as the visitors to Upton Road. On Sunday NC's Murray Smith Cheshire County League Sunday First Division 3rd XI play Heaton Mersey at Upton Road.
