HOLMES Chapel claimed their first 20-point haul of the season in the Meller Braggins League Division Two after defending a total of just 82.

The bowlers went to work to dismiss Bowdon Vale for 62.

Cholmondeley's miserable few seasons continued as they posted 186-6 declared against Barrow, but then they saw their visitors make 190-6 in reply.

In the J Whitfield North Staffs and District League Senior A, Weston suffered a seven-wicket setback at home to Silver-dale despite an excellent century from professional Saad Wasim.

He hit 108 in Weston's total of 186 and shared in a century opening stand with Mike Chester (29). But Tahir Mighal, who had taken 6-34 with the ball, added an unbeaten 75 with the bat and with Steve Jones adding an undefeated 84, Silverdale reached a winning 189-3.

Weston Seconds also had a disappointing result at Silverdale, who scored 191-5 before being bowled out for 72, but they were encouraged by an innings of 24 from junior Richard Newton.
