CHESHIRE seconds ended their season in f ine style with an impressive 73-run win over Yorkshire Cricket Academy at Upton.

Having had their opponents struggling at 158-7 overnight, Steve Bramhall's team were happy to take the visitors' declaration and bat again to set a sizeable target to chase on the last day's play.

And they did exactly that as debutant James Lewis, from Winnington Park, smashed 74 to add to his first-innings 47, guiding Cheshire to 163-5 declared in their second innings.

Wicketkeeper Mark Makin, from Hyde, chipped with an unbeaten 31, before Urmston left-arm spin-ner Ian Grindley did the damage with the ball, finishing with 4-50 from 15 overs as Cheshire made it a treble of victories this term.

The only game the county's second-string have lost this season was against the Yorkshire Academy, when they were beaten by just one wicket at New Rover in Leeds.

But this time Bramhall and his ambitious team completed a memorable win with an hour remaining.

Promising Macclesfield youngster Craig Melrose also chipped in with 2-13 from seven overs as York-shire were dismissed for 178, well short of their target.

Makin completed a good match with three catches and two stumpings and Ian Grindley ended with match figures of 7-74 from 32 overs
