OAKMERE remain rooted to the bottom of Meller Braggins League Division One after they suffered a 110-run hammering by Hale Barns on Saturday.

The third-placed visitors made the most of a magnificent Overdale Lane pitch to set a daunting 226-1dec before bowling Oakmere out for 116.

The Hale Barns openers suffered a few scares but put on 211 for the first wicket.

The home side’s batsmen were unable to scale those heights, with only Nick Guest (28) passing 20 runs.

Oakmere captain Peter Hutchinson said: “It was a superb partnership from the Hale Barns batsmen who enjoyed both the excellent track and outfield prepared by the groundsmen.”

Frodsham 2nds (56-0) were 10-wicket winners at Haslington 2nds (52) in Cheshire Alliance Division Three on Sunday.

Chester Boughton Hall fell victim to unbeaten Oakmere – and the rain – in the biggest game of the Cheshire Women’s League season so far.

Jemma Bentley (3-13) helped keep the hosts down to 123-9 (Nic Cape 30) in 40 overs before the weather interrupted proceedings.

Oakmere eventually reached 81-4 (Helen Smith 32) in 26 overs, giving them victory with a better run rate.
