CHESHIRE LEAGUES: Having had a poor first half to the season, Alvanley are up to a respectable eighth in Meller Braggins Cheshire League's Division One after a 22-run home victory over Cholmondeley.
Alvanley made 153-7, after being put in, recovering from 45-3 in the 21st over and then 90-6 in the 34th.
Ben Pearce (31) was the only top-order batsmen to make an impact - finding the boundary three times before being bowled for 31.
Skipper Mark Szymura (18) and Chris Fletcher (24no) were unable to raise the run rate above four on a track which had some exaggerated bounce.
Enter James Rowlinson (28no) to hit two huge sixes in the space of three overs and three boundaries in the final over of the innings.
Thirty eight runs had come off the last four overs and Rowlinson kept up the good work with the ball, removing both openers with only seven on the board.
Guy Ford (31) thumped a few boundaries but top edged spinner Dave Shewring to wicket keeper Fletcher.
Rowlinson claimed his third victim and Phil Jones another to leave Cholmondeley 63-5.
Ed Middleton and Mark Jones counter attacked to more than double the score before captain Szymura took a magnificent catch to remove Middleton (30) off Pete Pearce.
Shewring trapped Jones for 27 on his way to 4-48 while Pearce claimed his second victim.
Alvanley 2nd's disappointing Division B defeat at Alderley Park could jeopardise their chances of promotion.
The visitors had been second of seven teams competing for the two places in Division A.
* In Cheshire Alliance's Division One at Frodsham, visitors Hartford (191-7) won by 23 runs - bowling out Frodsham despite G Houghton's 54 and 48 from T Wilkinson.
Kingsley (76-9) defeated visiting Sandbach (74ao) by one wicket after Adrian Burden had taken 5-22 and A Storey 4-15.
