ELLESMERE Port were one of the few sides to avoid rain delays on Saturday, but they still lost out at Cheshire Alliance Division One leaders Wistaston Village.

Captain Phil Ashton said: 'Our last three games have been against the sides who are expected to finish in the top three this season, and we haven't acquitted ourselves too badly. It's been a tough run but we could have won each match and still put ourselves in contention. If we'd had a bit more good fortune then we might have got something out of this game.'

Port lost the toss and were put into bat with Ashton making 16 before falling to Townsend (1-21).

Dom Green (4) was caught by Smith off Hogben (2-19) while Roberts was trapped lbw by Siddorns (2-20).

Nick Brimble (39) led an attempted recovery and Port looked fine at 80-3 before he was caught by Smith off Siddorns. But Boys' (4) dismissal to Titus (1-21) signalled a collapse.

Isaacs (9) was trapped lbw by Thornhill (3-11), who appeared late on to rip out the tail, bowling both Cheeseborough (0) and Stu Daniels (1) too.

Sayers (13) fell to Hogburn, leaving Betteridge (7no) and Craig Rawson (0no) at the crease as Port closed on 111-9.

Port's reply started brightly with Thomas (2) being bowled by Betteridge (1-35) while Owen (15) was caught by Roberts off Isaacs (1-24).

However, the hosts kept things ticking over steadily with Collins (26) and Thornhill (35) making decent contributions before being bowled by Sayers (2-30) and caught by Boys off Brimble (2-23) respectively.

Barnes added 18 before being caught by Isaacs off Brimble, while Townsend (13) was bowled by Sayers.

However, Jobbins (1no) and Siddorns (4no) saw Wistaston through to win with 112-6 off 35 overs.

Wistaston took 20pts, Port 7.
