AN inspired Ellesmere Port produced a superb all-round performance to win at Division One leaders Bunbury on Saturday.

Captain Phil Ashton was delighted with the victory and said: 'We have beaten a side that has a good shout of winning the league and it's just a shame we don't have enough games left to try and catch them.'

Port were first to bat and saw through their allotted overs to reach 180-8.

In response, the home side began brightly before losing Greenbury (15) to an lbw off Daniels.

Wickets continued to fall and Bunbury were all out for 102.

Chester County Officers lost at Wistaston but the game was long in the balance.

Delayed en route by an over-turned tractor blocking the Tarporley roundabout, the Chester team had to forfeit the toss and were inserted on a sluggish wicket. Progress was painfully slow but all the batsmen applied themselves to allow a late surge by Steve Johnson (29) and Mike Pownall (22) which raised the total to 120-9 at tea.

When Wistaston came out to bat they also struggled and some great catches - including three by Mike Clarke (4-36) - reduced the hosts to 82-7.

However, Steve Collins (17no) survived a sticky patch and a stumping appeal to build a partnership with Chris Townsend (19no) as they inched towards a winning 121-7.

Kingsley played host to Wood-ford on Saturday hoping to continue their recent excellent run of form.

Woodford batted first and, with wickets falling regularly, it looked like Kingsley would bowl the visitors out very cheaply as they slumped to 82-5.

However, decent batting saw Woodford reach 165-7 off their 48 overs (M Ollier 2-41).

In reply, Kingsley fell to 21-3 and with 10 overs remaining they required 78 with six wickets in hand.

With five overs to go the run rate was more than 10 so Kingsley shut up shop and finished on 135-8 (Elliot 49). nIn Division Two, hosts Frod-sham beat Eastham and Brom-borough by five wickets. East-ham & Bromborough made first use with 131-8 (B Large 7-33). Frodsham won the game with 134-5 (M Williamson 48).

In Division Three, Saughall's promotion was confirmed with a victory against local rivals Capenhurst.

With low cloud cover, Saughall skipper James Huxley opted to bowl first and had Capenhurst limping along at 49-5 after 34 overs. As the mid-order batsmen opened

their shoulders, James Huxley (2-26) came back into the attack to pick up another wicket, but it was Chris Andrews who benefited from the new-found attacking intent, bagging 4-34 as Capenhurst slumped to 123.

Saughall were reduced to 14-2 and it went from bad to worse for the leaders when both Ben Salisbury (18) and Andy Thomas (12) were caught.

From 39-4, Chris Andrews and Richard Tomlinson added 52 for the fifth wicket before the latter was brilliantly caught behind for 15. Mike Rowson sent two balls into orbit in a brisk 20, but it was Andrews who top-scored with 45no in Saughall's 124-6.

Skipper James Huxley said: 'I can't praise the team enough.

'Each and every one of them has been fantastic.'
