JAMES McCoy and Nathan Dumelow both sparkled with the willow, but it was not enough to stop Cheshire slipping to defeat against Shropshire in the Minor Counties Twenty20 Challenge at Wrekin College in Wellington.
Having been asked to bat, Widnes batsman McCoy top-scored with a quickfire 40 from 37 balls, while Oulton Park captain Dumelow smashed 33 from just 17 balls.
Cheshire eventually closed on 135-7 from their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Shropshire were struggling at 11-1, 11-2, then 44-3 and 48-4 at nine overs.
But the introduction of Australian recruit Reece O’Connell, brought in especially for the match, changed proceedings.
The hard-hitting all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 57 from just 27 balls and Shropshire won win with three overs to spare.
