PORT skipper Phil Ashton is under no illusions that his team are now in a relegation dogfight for the final month of the season as they battle to retain their new-found Premier Division status.

He said: 'Although we picked up full batting points, we've got a nervous end to the season. The table is pretty close and several clubs will be involved in the scrap at the wrong end of the division.'

Ashton lost the toss and the hosts elected to bat, putting on 77 for the first wicket before Mannion (21) was caught by Daniels off Betteridge (3-54), while Langton was trapped lbw for a duck soon after by Gatterill (1-38).

I Roberts (31) was next to go, caught by Roberts off Betteridge, while opener R Laughton, on 84, was finally caught in the deep by Daniels off Boys (1-50).

S Coates (9) was caught by Sayers off Betteridge but P Sneddon made 52 before being caught by Betteridge. The home side declared on 268-6 after 45 overs.

Port's reply started slowly as Ashton (10) was bowled by Frame (3-68), Roberts (9) hit his own wicket off R Laughton (2-18) and Sayers went for a duck, caught off the bowling of Frame.

Green made 30 before he was caught, while Cheeseborough (16) fell to a catch off Sneddon's (1-30) bowling.

Betteridge (15) and Oldcroft (14) were caught off Frame and Barber (3-31) respectively but Boys hit 45 before being bowled by Harding (1-28).

Although Port passed the 175-run mark for full batting points, they were unable to complete the job as John Park (12) was caught off Barber and Keith Gatterill was last man out, bowled by Barber for eight, leaving Daniels on 20no with 13 overs still remaining.

Langley took 25 points, Port eight.
