MELLER Braggins League new boys Castrol suffered their second defeat in as many games on Saturday as they were bowled out by Old Parkonians, 16 runs short of their 146 target.

Captain Mark Evans

put the hosts into bat and Old Parks made steady progress without actually threatening to get away.

T Hitchell (36) seemed the pick of the openers before becoming the first victim of MoM Garvey who took career and club best figures of 8-26.

He was caught and bowled while Moxley (0) had his stumps rearranged and the last ball of the over saw M Hitchell (0) trapped lbw with Garvey starting with a triple-wicket maiden.

Chris Hitchell survived a dropped catch before making his half-century, but his partnership with N Hitchell was ended when Walters caught the latter off Caulfield (1-21).

Garvey now hit his stride and next over got Fletcher (2) to pop one back to him and he completed the catch.

C Hitchell looked to get after the bowling before eventually being caught by Evans off a high one.

Two balls later, Flanagan took an even better catch to dismiss Cousins (2), giving Garvey his sixth wicket.

Castrol took their foot of the gas but Morisey and Garvey kept the pressure on and a good spell of fielding kept Old Parks down to 146, with Garvey taking his seventh and eighth wickets.

In reply, Evans (4) top-edged and was caught by Hitchell off Colebourne (3-42) while Benbow (14) was bowled by Fletcher (2-30).

Flanagan (12) misread a slower one and was bowled by Colebourne while Morrisey (0) joined the infamous duck club with Fletcher hitting the stumps.

King (1) slightly over-balanced and a brilliant bit of work by keeper Hitchell gave Colebourne his third wicket.

Garvey (13) steadied the ship along with Darren Green but Beckett (1-14) made a timely breakthrough to account for the former.

Caulfield (22) joined Green (39) and the pair nudged the ball around and got Castrol into a positive position.

But with the score on 110, Green took a huge step down the wicket, the ball hit his pads and the umpire raised his finger.

Garratt (13) played a little cameo to move the score to 124 when Hitchell (4-21) trapped him in front with a slower one. And when Caulfield guided one to gulley, it was almost game over. Aldcroft (5) and Walters (2no) did what they could but the final wicket fell with the score on 132.

Old Parkonians 23pts, Castrol 7.

Ellesmere Port's trip to Woodford was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Both sides took 5pts.
