CHESTER County Officers extended their lead at the top of the Cheshire Alliance on Saturday after an enthralling win at Bunbury.
While most of the area's clubs suffered a weekend washout, the Officers were able to cash in as their fixture survived the weather.
With just two matches left to play, Chester are now 10 points clear and are hot favourites to clinch promotion to the Meller Braggins League.
Bunbury were first to bat and had reached 46-1 by the seventh over but some superb bowling from Mike Clarke (4-36) and Mike Pownall (2-19) saw the hosts slump to 127ao in just 28 overs.
Officers set about reaching their target with Ian Barlow (29) and Chris Wright (23) contributing.
Adam Gewargis (46) continued their good progress by hitting four sixes before vice-captain Mike Clarke (12no) hit a six and a four to take Chester to 128-6.
The Officers' second string were also winners. They overcame Bunbury seconds by four wickets to maintain their place at the top of the league.
CHRISTLETON seconds cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket home win over Bollington while their thirds were 66-1 at Alderley Edge before torrential rain brought an early end to proceedings.
