RUNCORN saw off Davenham with plenty to spare on Saturday.

They won the Meller Braggins Cheshire League Division One clash by 62 runs after bowling out the visitors with 10 overs left.

Runcorn lost last week's top scorer Bobby Hough for a duck after being put in.

But fellow opener Dave Moore struck an attractive 55 from the first 80 runs.

There were later contributions from Mark Cahill and Steve Ollerenshaw who each hit two sixes in their respective 49no and 32.

Steve Foster scored 24 as Runcorn totalled 193-6, 80 runs coming off the last 13 overs.

Dean Jackson (2-25) and Steve Warburton (3-58) were the main wicket-takers for Davenham.

Rob Harrison (26), Mark Greaves (37) and Phil Sharples (20no) were the visitors' principal run-getters in reply.

But they lost wickets regularly with Ollerenshaw taking 3-22 off 11 overs, Jamie Hill 4-28 from seven and Jack Weston 2-28 off his seven.

Tony White also chipped in with a wicket as Davenham subsided to 101-9 in the 31st over.

The last pair put on 30 but a sharp catch by Weston ended their resistance.

Runcorn took 25 points, Davenham five.

Alvanley need a quick upturn in fortunes to avoid relegation from Division One.

Yet they showed admirable spirit in a rain-affected game at Sale before the home side won off the penultimate ball.

Despite an aggressive 54 from Nick Hawking, Alvanley could only muster 115-8, Chris Fletcher making 15.

Hawking took two wickets in his first four overs, without conceding.

When Peter Pearce came on as first change for James Rowlinson, whose six overs had cost only 12 runs, he removed opener Cutler second ball to make it 20-3.

Phil Jones replaced Hawking and came up with three wickets in his first two overs to leave Sale 42-6 from 20.

Jones added a fourth victim, making it 53-7, but Hawking resumed to account for two further batsmen, including Ali for 34.

Jones finished with 4-17 but Hawking couldn't prevent Sale from scoring the six they needed off the last over - being unluckily no-balled for a high full toss after the greasy ball had slipped out of his hand.

Alvanley 2nd, despite 30s from opener Iolo Savill and Andy Booth, at three, slumped to 109ao in reply to Sale's 161-7 (Peter French 5-60 from 22).
