MOORFIELD climbed back into fourth spot in the Southport and Merseyside & Southport Alliance's Division Two with victory against St Mary's College OB in Hightown.

Skipper Ste Dean elected to field and pegged back the home line-up after a decent start from the home openers and number four Joe Kelly (69).

Dean returned an impressive 5-42 off 21 overs to help dismiss the hosts for 166.

Rain threatened and indeed interrupted the Moorfield reply.

But opener Mark Brick (41), Dan Magee (56no) and Dean (44) guided the visitors home in relative comfort to 168-6 off only 26 overs - Moorfield winning by 20 points to seven.

Last Tuesday saw Moorfield beat Division One title chasers and arch rivals Rainhill in the 20-over Lever Knockout.

Away skipper Mike Rotherham chose to bat and three of the top four Rainhill batters got going.

But it all went pear shaped as the Moorfield attack decimated the lower order - seven wickets falling for 17 runs to leave Rainhill 104ao off 18 overs. Neil Maher took 4-5.

Moorfield lost both openers cheaply but Ste Dean smashed a quickfire 50 and carried his bat.

He was supported by Neil Maher, Graeme Abbott and Dan Magee in the home side's 106-4 with five overs to spare.

Moorfield visit Whitefield in the next round on Tuesday, July 18.
