CREWE and Nantwich A eased to victory in the brand-new Phoenix 15 midweek league, but Nantwich B and Weston suffered opening day defeats.
The competition has been formed from the ashes of the North Staffs and District League. Teams are arranged into geographic zones. Each side gets 15 overs per match, with eight players per team and bowlers allowed a maximum of four overs
In Zone B, Crewe eased to a five-wicket win over Onneley.
Visiting Onneley were dismissed for 75 as Martin Webb and Mike Holt claimed two wickets each.
Jo Boyle was not out on 24 as Crewe reached their target with three overs to spare.
Ben Mogg, Paul Stockton and Ashley Shaw claimed two wickets each as Nantwich A dismissed hosts Whitmore for 71. Ray Doyle (42 not out) and Chris Simpson (26 not out) helped their side to 73-0 and victory.
In Zone A Rode Park & Lawton batted first at Nantwich B and a superb 72 from Jake Johnson helped ensure a total of 140-5. Nantwich's defeat was sealed when their reply was restricted to 101-5, with Jeff Maynard (35) and Paul Hampshire (37).
Sandyford entertained Weston and posted 156-5, as Ade Evans and Garry Jennison got two wickets each. Weston reached 126-4 with Stuart Fisher (38) and Evans (32 not out) but it was not enough.
