WARREN Goodwin has earned a recall to the Cheshire side for their biggest match of the season - the Minor Counties final against Northumberland.

The Chester Boughton Hall all-rounder was deemed surplus to requirements for last month's Knockout Trophy final at Lord's, where Suffolk earned a 35-run victory.

Now Goodwin, who top-scored with a fluent 65 when Cheshire drew with Shropshire to win the Western Division last month, is back in the fold and looking to help his county seal the Minor Counties Championship title.

The four-day final at Northumberland's Jesmond Cricket Club home in Newcastle begins on Sunday, and Cheshire are confident of completing a memorable double, having already won the Western Division crown.

Skipper Andy Hall said: 'We were really disappointed to lose to Suffolk at Lord's, but we've got to bounce back from that defeat and make sure we don't waste a great season.

'Northumberland are a strong side, but we haven't been beaten in the Championship this season - and we don't want to end the season with a defeat.'

Cheshire last reached the Championship final in 2005 when, after a rain-interrupted three-day match at Ransomes Cricket Club, they shared the then three-day title with Suffolk.

Oulton Park quartet Nathan Dumelow, Ben Spendlove, Chris Bassano and Danny Leech have all been selected, but there is no room for former Yorkshire and Glamorgan player Is-mail Dawood.

Neston's Chris Finegan is in the squad and aiming to turn in another quality performance after impressing in the Knockout Trophy final defeat at Lord's.

And although Cheshire lost by 35 runs, Fin-egan had a game to remember with an impressive 3-38 return from 10 tight overs, two catches and a run out.

The Liverpool-born paceman has also claimed 13 more scalps for his county this season as they continue to chase a title double.

It is not yet known whether Cheshire will add Nantwich all-rounder Oliver Sadler to their squad as cover, with all-rounder Jason Whittaker unavailable.

Cheshire team: Andy Hall (captain), Matthew Dawson (wicketkeeper, Bramhall); Chris Finegan (Neston); Warren Goodwin (Chester Boughton Hall); Nathan Dumelow, Ben Spend-love, Chris Bassano, Danny Leech (Oulton Park); James Duffy, Danny Woods (Hyde); Adam Syddall (Bowdon). 12th man: Chris Davis (Oxton).
