STEVE Ollerenshaw spurred recovery but could not spare Runcorn a fifth successive defeat in Meller Braggins Cheshire League Division One.

Replying to 240-6 at Oakmere, the visitors had subsided to 106-7 in the 25th.

But Ollerenshaw's 83 - including nine fours and four sixes - and newcomer Rojish Rocki with 22 took them on to a more respectable 164-8.

The Moughland Lane men were eventually dismissed for 195.

Ollerenshaw was last man out - to a questionable lbw decision - to leave Runcorn with eight points to Oakmere's 25.

On electing to field first, Runcorn had tasted early success - snaring Oakmere skipper Paul Yearsley for seven.

But fellow opener Paul Hutchinson (105) and Phil Nelson took the score to 154-2 against the toiling Run-corn bowlers.

Nelson scored 65 with P Guildford adding an un-beaten 35. Runcorn's bowl-ers captured three wickets in their last three overs.

Skipper Mark Cahill took 3-34 and Steve Ollerenshaw, Jamie Hill and Carl Hargreaves a wicket each.

In their reply, Runcorn had a steady start but then lost wickets regularly. nMoorfield knocked Liverpool Manweb off the top of the Merseyside & Southport Alliance Division Two by claiming a winning draw against their high-flying Merseyside &Southport Alliance Division Two visitors.

On a scorching day, home skipper Ste Dean won the toss and elected to bat in a game Moorfield had to at least prevent the visitors winning.

The top three got starts but Neil Maher, at four, really got them motoring with a belligerent 102.

He was aided by Ste Dean (38), John Eccleshall (28), Dan Magee (20), Howie Fox (32) and Mark Greason (31) as Moorfield declared on a mammoth 334-8 after 50 overs.

The visitors were obviously demoralised while still in the field and their slow over rate looks set to result in loss of further points.

After tea, Moorfield opening bowler Mark Greason bagged two wickets in the second over to send the visitors reeling. But overseas opener Fabien (96) and number four Perise (87) steadied the ship - guiding Manweb to a draw at 201-4 after 31 overs.

Moorfield took 12 points to their opponents' nine.
