LAURA Newton enjoyed one of cricket's luckiest escapes during her latest overseas adventure with the England Ladies team.

The 26-year-old allrounder, who started her cricketing career in South Cheshire with Crewe Rolls-Royce, helped England to a 4-1 victory in their one-day series in South Africa.

But she enjoyed an amazing reprieve after appearing to be run out during the second ODI in East London.

She was short of her ground when a direct hit seemed to signal the end of her innings.

Yet astonishingly, with Laura already heading back to the pavilion, the bails leapt five centimetres in the air before settling back in their grooves and Laura was recalled by the umpire!

The South Africans were left to rue Laura's good fortune. She went on to make 65 as England won by an innings and 119 runs.
