ELLESMERE Port rewrote the record books on Saturday as they skittled league leaders Chelford for just 33 runs.

The amazing display, which restricted their high-flying opponents to an all-time innings low against Port, enabled Phil Ashton's side to record a 152-run victory.

Ashton said: 'We're delighted. It's not like Chelford are some kind of whipping boys. They came into the game as one of this year's title favourites having won their opening two matches of the season and 10 out of the final 11 games last season. I can't remember being part of any senior cricket side who has managed to bowl their opponents out for 33 in my entire career.

'The club is really buzzing and there's a real belief about the team. For the past couple of years we've had to consolidate but we're looking to learn from those experiences.'

Port lost the toss and were put in to bat, but debutant opener Nick Brimble made a 58-run first-wicket stand with Ashton, registering 26 before being Ashton (61) eventually fell to Sharp (4-55), who also bowled Cheeseborough for the same score.

Sharp then bowled Isaacs (6) while Andy Sayers made eight before being stumped by the wicketkeeper, again off Sharp, and Stu Daniels was caught by Oliver off Cailye (1-29).

With just three balls of their allotted 48 overs remaining, Port declared on 185-6.

In reply, Betteridge (6-24) got to work fast, trapping Hough (6) lbw and dismissing M Dickenson for a duck with a catch from Boys.

A fantastic delivery from Isaacs (4-8) accounted for Chelford's Australian skipper Weston (13), who had gone on to make more than 70 against Port last season after being dropped on none.

Catches by Sayers and Brimble off the bowling of Betteridge and Isaacs respectively returned Dingle and S Oliver for ducks, while the latter also trapped G Smith (5) lbw and bowled Wakefield (4).

The slaughter was completed in just 20 overs as Betteridge took the last three wickets for just a single run, dismissing Philips (1) via a Daniels catch, Lowry (0) and Sharp (0), leaving Cailye on 2no.

Ellesmere Port 25pts, Chelford 3.
