FOR once, Bob Harris let someone else do the damage as high-flying Bunbury secured another impressive win at Aston.

After incredible back-to-back nine-wicket hauls, Harris failed to hit his mark on Saturday but, thankfully, Pete Matthews and Dave Roberts were bang on form with four wickets each as the hosts were restricted to just 133ao.

In reply, Bunbury wobbled early on as Nick Swinbank (4) and Simon Lamb (8) were dismissed cheaply by the excellent Andy Leese.

But Leese's 4-23 was not enough to turn the game back in the hosts' favour, and after steady knocks from Mark Ryder (36) and Lee Greenbury (48), Bunbury cruised to a four-wicket victory after batting for just 30.5 overs.

Bunbury's victory saw them close the gap on leaders North-wich as the table-toppers were beaten at home by fourth-placed Wistaston.

Batting first, the home side found runs difficult to come by and were restricted to just 160ao thanks to some fine bowling from Keith Thornhill (4-42) and James Hogben (4-28).

The Villagers found the going tough early on also, struggling to just 35-2. But a seven-run third-wicket partnership between Paul Owen (42) and Gareth Barnes (43), who hit three towering sixes in his total, paved the way for a three-wicket victory which has thrown the top of the table wide open.

Not too far off the pace themselves, Sandbach secured a five-wicket victory at Kingsley after restricting their hosts to 189-7. Knocks from M Smith (47), J Hutchin (38) and M Metcalfe (39no) saw Sandbach home with time to spare.

In Division Three, Audlem continued their promotion push with a hard-fought victory away to Mossley.

Skipper Steve Swallow won the toss and elected to field on what looked a bowler-friendly track. But Mossley coped well and posted 176-6, despite a superb spell of controlled bowling from W Baxter, who took 1-13 in 10 overs.

An opening stand of 50 for Audlem, including 30 from G Gay, put the visitors on course. And with Chris Lewis on an unbeaten 56, they passed the finishing line with nine balls spare for the loss of just four wickets.

Wistaston seconds went down at home to Northwich as they struggled to get going on what looked a decent batting pitch.

Northwich batted first, hitting 175-3 from 42 overs, with Dean Titus the only bowler in the Wistaston attack to threaten the visitors as he took an impressive 3-26.

But the chase was even tamer with Wistaston slumping to 4-8 in the first few overs, making victory seem highly unlikely from the start.

Despite a brave knock of 33 from Martin Davies, Wistaston could only just about limp to three figures and were finally dismissed for 110, losing by 65 runs.

Wistaston Village CC is holding its annual President's Day on Sunday to tie in with the club's 25th anniversary celebrations.

The event will be held at The Brittles, there will be junior cricket from 11am to 1.30pm and adult cricket from 2-7.30pm, with a full range of refreshments including cream teas, a BBQ and licensed bar.
