BAD weather had threatened to postpone this fixture - but Moorfield will be happier than most with the weekend's heat wave after seeing off Corpy to claim the VC Cup.

This year's final was contested between the two teams who were relegated from Division One last year.

Batting first on a good wicket, Moorfield got off to a solid start with Danny Naughton and Corpy old boy Tim Wearden playing some good strokes.

Wearden was the first batsman to go, caught behind by Tabb on seven. D Moore came to the crease and, after offering good support to Naughton, was run out having also scored seven.

Mike Harrison, in at four, didn't survive long, caught by Alan Jackson at mid-on for three. Howie Fox followed in what looked like a high-scoring innings total, but Naughton was stumped on 45 by wicketkeeper Tabb.

Ball came to the crease to help Fox, but by this time the momentum was gone and these two batsmen lasted the rest of Moorfield innings to take the score to a respectful 112-4 wickets.

Andy Findlater was the pick of the Corpy bowlers, taking two wickets in his five-over spell, with Jennison taking the other wicket in his spell of five.

After the interval, Corporation came out to try to overhaul Moorfield's target, with Simon Tabb and Peter Find-later opening. Some tight bowling from Ball and Bri Cafferty kept runs at a premium.

Findlater's wicket fell to a good caught and bowled by Ball, having only scored two runs. Jennison, in at three, brought some stability to the Corpy stand, pushing the ball to all parts of the Beaconsfield Road ground. Tabb was next to go, caught by Ball for seven.

Nickson then came and went as a change of bowlers saw him clean bowled by Naughton for three, bringing another Wearden to the crease, this time Ste. He too was clean bowled, this time by Fox having scored seven.

The more wickets that fell, the more Corpy panicked, and English was next to go, scoring 10.

Jennison was rapidly running out of time and partners and, trying once too often to reach the boundary, was caught having scored 32 runs.

Al Jackson, out for four, never both-ered the scorers, with Andy Findlater (6) and Garner (1) the not-out batsmen in the Corporation's final total of 94-7.

Fox was the pick of the Moorfield bowlers, capturing three wickets in his five-over spell, with one wicket each for Cafferty, Ball and Naughton.

League president Peter Knowles named Danny Naughton MoM.
