NORTHWICH were aggrieved that Sandbach called off their game because of a waterlogged pitch at noon - and then fielded a strong line-up in the 2nds clash at Moss Farm.

That game ended with both scores on 164, but the rules for what is and isn't a tie flummoxed Northwich.

Spokesman Simon James said: 'We could not comprehend the rule.

'A game can only be a tie if the team batting second is all out.

'They made 164-6 and we made 164-9 and drew. But had the last man been out, the game would have been a tie and we would have got three more points. It doesn't figure.'

But having spare first-teamers helped the club stage two home games for the first time ever.

As well as the 2nds, the newly-formed Northwich 3rds were also at Moss Farm, on the recently laid strip, against Grange.

Steve Oldham hit a powerful 54, Ed Smithson 27 and Jim Kimber 21 in the 2nds' match.

The 3rds lost but it was an historic day for Northwich who performed well with six youngsters in their ranks.

Glynoj Cherian, aged 14, showed his promise with 25 and two wickets; Oliver Steriopulos hit 21no and John Spruce (15) bowled 11 overs for 1-19: Northwich 112ao Grange 113-7.

Because of other commitments, Northwich fielded a team of largely Under 15s against Port Sunlight on Friday, but still won by six wickets.
