DROPPED catches sent early-season lead-ers Runcorn spinning to a heavy defeat at Tattenhall in Meller Braggins Cheshire League's Division One.

The Moughland Laners reduced the hosts to 43-2 in the 10th over - after a delayed start.

But things fell apart as Tattenhall stormed to 203-4dec after 37 overs.

Two or three easy chances were among catches put down while Jack Weston took 2-62 in 10 overs.

Runcorn started steadily reaching 20 without loss but then collapsed to 55-7 in the 23rd over.

Only Ollerenshaw (15) and Richie Yates (16no) reached double figures with Runcorn's batting being as poor as their bowling and fielding.

Tattenhall went top with their 25pts-2 victory which was clinched with 14 overs in hand.

MOORFIELD lost by eight wickets at home to Merseyside & Southport Alliance Division Two newcomers Burscough.

Moorfield opening pair of John Eccleshall and Rob Morris started promisingly but when Morris was caught for 13, Eccleshall saw the next five batsmen fall in single figures.

Rob Magee, batting at eight, helped to stop the rot - reaching a fine 53 after Eccleshall had been caught for 47.

Magee was joined by Howie Fox who knocked a quickfire 19 before the innings closed on 175-9.

After tea,Powell (76) and visitors skipper, Murray (77) set about the home attack and despite many changes of style and pace, the home side could not make any impression.

Saturday sees Moorfield travel to newlyrelegated Haydock.

ALVANLEY suffered their first defeat of the Cheshire League Division One season - falling to visiting Cholmondeley on a difficult batting track.

Promoted to opener, Jonny Ollier made a quickfire 28 including a flat six over mid-off.
