CAMERON Park and Steve Titchard saw Widnes to an emphatic nine-wicket win over Birkenhead Park which lifted the victorious hosts to fourth in the CD Bramall Cheshire County League's ECB Premier Division.

Their wonderful, unbroken 164-run second-wicket partnership lifted Widnes to fourth in the table as they capitalised on a four-wicket haul from Bappa Mukherjee.

Ian Spencer won the toss and asked Park, who had made a bright start to the season to bat.

Rain delayed the start with 10 overs being lost. Park laid a solid platform with Hunter and Cooper taking the score to 59 before Gareth Dyson dismissed Cooper who was well caught at slip by Tony Hurdley.

The score was taken on to 76 before Mukherjee bowled the dangerous Cooper for 48.

Nine runs later, keeper Spencer brilliantly stumped Stenhouse off Titchard.

Smart catches by Catterall and Naughton, both off the bowling of Mukherjee, saw Park in trouble at 99-6.

Their tailenders did well to take the score onto 164-9 after 55 overs with

Mukherjee taking 4-41 off 21 overs and Titchard and Hurdley claiming two wickets apiece - for 29 and 18, respectively.

With only 45 overs at their disposal, Widnes got off to the worst possible start.

They lost Danny Naughton second ball for nought. But this was to be the last success for Birkenhead as Lancashire Academy chief Titchard and Aussie ace Park slowly but surely built their match-winning partnership.

Park was first to a half century after which he increased his momentum. He was 82no and Titchard 65no when victory was achieved with four overs to spare. n Widnes 2nd were well beaten by Birkenhead Park seconds.

Park scored 162-6 and, in reply Widnes were bowled out for 106. n Widnes U13s maintained their un-beaten league record with a victory on Ormskirk's lovely ground.

After winning the toss, Widnes elected to bat and R Travis and A Clare quickly amassed an opening partnership of 50. Wickets then fell quickly but they rallied to 127-6 at close of innings.

Ormskirk, in reply, never really looked like reaching the target in 20 overs and despite some quick runs in the late order, they finished on 86-9.

This afternoon, the U11s travel to Rainhill and they also hope to re-arrange a game against Ormskirk while the U13s entertain Hightown on Sunday morning.

The U15s host Alder tomorrow and Billy Webb's side await the winners of the Old Xaverians/St Helens Recs semi-final in the age group cup final.
