KINGSLEY 1st courted victory, flirted with defeat and could even have tied in a nailbiting Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One draw at Chester County Officers on Saturday.

All results were possible as the last ball was sent down by CCO, but Anthony Alderman wisely blocked it to win Kingsley enough points to keep them in mid-table.

The home side, batting first, had struggled against early swing and were only 57-4 at midinnings - all wickets falling to Adrian Burden.

Despite a probing spell from veteran seamer Alderman with 3-62, Gilbody (55) led a recovery.

But Burden returned to complete 7-27 from 19 overs as CCO reached a respectable 145.

Only Wayne Owen occupied the crease for any length of time as CCO's Barlow (4-42) bowled unchanged.

With four needed for victory from the last over, Owen (45) became Gilbody's fourth victim.

A run-out then left the issue very much in the balance but Alderman kept his cool.

Kingsley 2nd 135ao in 45 overs (Ainsworth 29, Coleman 24, Leatherland 26), CCO 2nd 120ao (Ainsworth four wickets, Oultram three wickets).
