HOLMES Chapel continued their improved form with an eight-wicket win at Winsford in Division Two of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League.

After dismissing Winsford for 78, Holmes hit 80-2 in reply to move to within two points of Winsford in the table.

Division One basement boys Cholmondeley suffered their 11th defeat of the season as they lost by four wickets at Runcorn, while in Division Three, Sand-bach slipped up at Ashley after being dismissed for 112 in pursuit of 125-9 declared.

Weston slipped perilously close to the J Whitfield and Sons North Staffs and District League relegation zone after losing to lowly Scot Hay.

Imran Qadir hit 56 and Simon Barratt 42 as Weston made 191-7, but Scot Hay knocked off the runs to claim a six wickets win at 192-4. Crewe Cricket Club are staging a Sixties night at Crewe Vagrants Club on Friday, featuring the popular band Jukebox Heroes. Admission is £8 and includes a fish and chip supper.
